Happy New Year!

It is hard to believe that it's winter, and that we are well into term 2! This term in math, the grade 2s will work on addition and subtraction to 100, and the grade 3s will work on addition and subtraction to 1000. Both grades will practice these skills using various strategies learned in class, and mental math and word problems will be an area of focus. Students will also continue their study of geometry and patterning.

In ELA, the students will engage in reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities each day. Guided reading will resume in class, and students are encouraged to read from their "just right" book bag during independent reading time. In writing, we will focus on descriptive and narrative writing units, as well as regular journal writing. The students will also work daily with their "no excuses" words. There will be many opportunities for the students to present their work and ideas to the class, and to listen and learn from both their teachers and their peers.

Please continue to support home reading. Your child should be bringing home their home reading bag each week. Please read with your child, and discuss what you read using the before/during/after prompt sheet that was provided. Books can be brought back to school to be exchanged weekly. Also, please continue to have your child practice spelling the CCRSBs "no excuses" words that were sent home earlier in the year.
